THE DOUBLE LIFE OF A DESIGNER (Or… Maybe I’m Clark Kent? 🤓🦸‍♀️)

Above: Me cleaned up in Engineer mode versus me ready to take on anything in DIY mode

You know me as an interior designer — but what you might not know is that I also handle demolition, crawl through attics, and lay flooring. This post is a peek behind the scenes of my real renovation life: part project manager, part toolbelt-wearing contractor, part strategy-loving design nerd. If you're curious what a day in the life of a designer actually looks like (or why I own steel-toe boots and a very cute laser level), you’re in the right place.

You know those Instagram-perfect design feeds where everything is styled, serene, and spotless?

Yeah… this isn’t that post.

My closet is organized by rainbow.

  I love pretty details.

Most days, I look very “put together.”

My new walk in closet. All my pretty things organized by rainbow. Isn’t she gorgeous??

Me. Put together.

 And then… there’s renovation mode:

🛠 Ladder bruises

🛠 Tile knees

🛠 Dirt on my feet, legs, arms — everywhere, really

🛠 Writing on my arm with a cut list — cause who needs paper!

I have a camera roll full of photos like these:

Me. NOT put together.

Honestly, I love both sides of it. There’s something deeply satisfying about creating beautiful spaces with actual sweat and elbow grease — not just pretty moodboards.

Also… this double life thing runs deeper than just design:

→ At work, I wear glasses — my colleagues barely recognize me without them.

→ I play ultimate frisbee in pigtails — and one of my teammates legit didn’t recognize me sitting beside him at a social event because I had my bangs down.

………Maybe I really AM Clark Kent…. and Design / DIY is my superpower! 🤓🦸‍♀️

So here’s the real deal: I’m a designer who climbs the ladder herself, hauls the tile, crawls on the floor, and sometimes (ok, fine, often) goes home with more bruises than I started with — and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

How about you? Anyone else living a secret “double life” these days? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Or if you have a project you need “Superman’s” help with, I’d love to hear about it!
